Your Site And Seo

People try hard to mystify the SEO process, it is not as hard as many would want you to believe. Despite all the techno terms that many in the field will throw at you: SERPs, SEM, PageRank, Keyword Density, Vertical Search, Algorithms... SEO is really simple to do if you understand some basic concepts and follow some easy steps.

Yes I have Been Doing It By Myself. Please allow me to convey my story of why I chose to pursue this task. It is not because I can't afford the service of others, but because of the vague answer given me by a self proclaimed expert that was or is working for a very well known online website supplier. I posed a question to a representative of homestead { Intuit } websites after he had brought up the optimization theory and how they would do it for me,it was about three months ago and it went a little like this. Q: Thank you for offering to optimize my new website, and $100.00 a month sounds great, but how do I know that you are doing what you claim. Well his answer was a little like this: A; Okay please go to http://www.somebody's site.com do you see that they sell used army supplies and clothing, and his traffic is 6 thousand visitors a week and at 6000 visitors if only 100 of them spent $50.00 with him that is $5000.00 a month he is making, now doesn't $100.00 a month seem like a great deal seeing how he gets to keep $4900.00 for himself. I was blown away, first off he never addressed the question and secondly he began by trying to sell me a pipe dream by throwing a well known website out there for his example, and then he started in with the make shift analytic's of a beginner never once approaching the initial question of how a prospective customer could verify the actual work was being done. So while I'm Trying to keep my cool on the phone he remained very focused on selling me this optimization bundle, as I listened to his pitch it dawned on me that this was being repeated through memory and repetition. It was then that I kindly accepted, yep you heard that right I accepted, Now i was on a mission to catch a thief and it took a couple of months but I nailed him to the wall and my money was returned and I was repeatably apologized to by a supervisor and then it was explained to me how this optimization was really supposed to work according to him and because he was a supervisor I should follow his instruction, Again I was blown away and even after he explained what he felt was relevant, It then dawned on me that this so-called search engine optimization was up for interpretation sort of like the bible that we all [or most of us] live by. Okay I was left with only one viable alternative and that was to do it myself and yes I knew I was in for the ride of a life time, but not all was lost as the two prior explanations had let the cat out of the bag, now I basically knew what I had to do. So my first visit would be to Google, and after a month and countless hours of head banging moments I was successful in verifying my website and it was then that I realized the need for a layman,s guide to basic search engine optimization. If I would not have attempted and completed this task, it would have never became clear how a person could track the work of another agency. Then from no where information would start flowing in, first was the keyword aspect of the optimization process, and then came backlinks and somewhere along the way the idea of a blog was either mentioned or I dreamed it up, but I will go with the first of the two scenario's. So here I am trying to figure out exactly how and why a blog would effect a website's visibility and so I have come to a conclusion." A blog is nothing more than a promotional tool built to show off your expertise in a given field or on a given subject, and like a group of friends you are either on the in or your on the out, and sidelines well there is no sideline's and as it turns out there is only so many places at the table." So here I sit typing my way into oblivion and although my website is not gaining anymore attention than yesterday, my spelling has become a tad better and with the help of other Manta members I have become a tad more conscious of others explanations and how they might adversely affect my mission. What I am unclear about is sort of stupid but all the same important to me, simply put is a blog part of a person's website with it's own unique url or is it a self sustained entity. The reason I ask is because I have what Intuit calls a blog and it is on my front page, so I am assuming it is just a part of that page and it allows others to comment on what ever please's them or as to the content of the website as a whole, or am I supposed to be commenting on it myself in hope's that Google and other search engines pick up on it. Search Engine Optimization is getting your content listed in all the top positions in Google, Yahoo and MSN for your targeted keywords. When someone does a keyword search in a search engine for your particular subject or niche - you want your site or content to be at the top of the list.

Here are 10 SEO tactics that have worked and are working for me at this moment in time. I make this clarification because you must understand search engines, especially Google, are constantly redefining how they rank pages. Here are my favorite tactics and strategies:

SITEMAPS- sitemaps are for the search engines, not for the human eye. Sitemaps tell the search engines which pages you want crawled and indexed. this will lead us into site depth where it is important that your most useful page [content] should be within two clicks of your home page as most of the links will be pointing back to.
