Hello! At SOUTH TEXAS TRADER we believe in our community. We have partnered with a nonprofit organization, The Door In The Wall, Inc.(DITW), that serves people of all ages with disabilities. This organization was founded in 1994 by the Blair Family. Their daughter, Jennifer, survived spinal meningitis when she was 2 months old. She now uses a wheelchair for her mobility. The mission of DITW is to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and encourage them to take the first step to try new experiences that previously were considered beyond their reach. It is also the goal to educate their able bodied peers to enable them both to live together with new respect and understanding. A disabled person is constantly faced with barriers. We strive to bring the outdoors and it's beauty to every individual that might feel that this is not accessible to them. Besides being a resource of information, DITW also organizes events that include fishing, sailing, Texas barbecues and holiday celebrations free of charge.
All funds raised by this 501(c)3 nonprofit organization are used for future events. They are an AVO (all volunteer organization/no paid staff). We are totally dependent on community support. Thanks to organizations like CHASE, H.E.B., Texas Paralyzed Veterans Association, Texas Parks and Wildlife, The Island Queen II and the City of Port Aransas, San Antonio Area Disability Advocates, Premieant Assisted Living, Jordan Ford of San Antonio, Alamo Mobility to mention a few. We are in need of additional sponsors to keep up with the demand and increasing costs. Funding is needed to help this program continue their fantastic accessible events that are providing a much needed service to the community.
The founding members of THE DOOR IN THE WALL PROGRAM,(ditwtexas.org),serve more than 350,000 physically and mentally disabled people and their loved ones. Your tax deductible donation will make a tremendous difference. Please visit their web site to learn more about them. www.ditwtexas.org.
